Make Peace With Your Inner ‘Maverick’

Make Peace With Your Inner ‘Maverick’

Ever been described as a maverick? If so, you think outside the box and prefer to do things in an innovative, non-conformist way? You also have powerful ideas, and that unmistakable fire in your belly helping to fuel them into execution. However, there’s one problem: being an employee makes it difficult for you to fully express your contributions on a grander scale.

The traditional workplace is often challenging for someone like you, especially long-term. In fact, it may even stifle your genius and innovation. Have you ever considered that, all things being equal, your success and happiness might require you to ‘make your own way?’ If you’re not satisfied with the status quo, consider making peace with your inner maverick and reach for the road less traveled. Here’s why:

1. Your impact could be greater. If the 9-to-5 is cramping your style, think about the benefits of maximizing your expert reach under your own brand. The ability to share your insight with the masses gives you unfettered access to the world of business in ways that simply do not exist for employees. Additionally, you will have a greater appreciation for how your work impacts your target audience because you will be more intimately connected with the planning, execution, and outcomes. Think about it.

2. There’s the potential to make more money. As an employee, whether you are hourly, salaried or paid on commission, you have fewer options available, which could potentially increase your bottom line. As an owner, you can create real economic possibility. Why be pigeonholed if you don’t have to be? Why not challenge yourself and create a business model that can become increasingly scalable, driving both growth and profitability? Why not obviate the scarcity mentality and embrace the idea that ‘there’s always more where that came from.’

3. Doing what you love has its own rewards. It’s been said that ‘when you do what you love, you’ll never work a day in your life.’ Life is too short to tread the muck and mire just to get by–especially when there are so many incredible examples of mavericks that, with less than ideal circumstances, took the plunge and made remarkable things happen. If you’re willing to take some risks, then peace of mind, bundled with its own sweet rewards could be just around the corner.

Are you a maverick? If so, consider why making your own way could be the best career advice you ever get.
