LL Cool J: “It’s Nice to be Responsible for the Love Side of Things”
Seasoned veteran Hip-Hop artist, James Todd Smith, aka LL Cool J, gave an exclusive interview to Esquire magazine while he was in Austin, Texas to play the Doritos Bold Stage at SXSW (South by Southwest).
When asked what he is most proud of, he responded: “I enjoy my whole career. But I guess that I called out the fact of making love songs in hip-hop and female-leaning songs for women in hip-hop, and I introduced that to the genre in the same way Dr. Dre, Cube, and them introduced gangsta rap to the genre. It’s nice to be responsible for the love side of things. That’s a good feeling.”
The rapper, mostly known these days for his acting, has an album coming out later this year and stated: “Music is absolutely important. And it’s even more important than it was before because I do music out of love now. I don’t make my living doing music, but I love music. I have a new record coming out April 30. It’s always going to be my first love.”
