WATCH: Awards Show Brings Top Nigerian Talent to New York City
The 7th Annual Nigerian Entertainment Awards brought the who’s who of Nigerian entertainment to New York City recently, with a weekend full of events hosted by Nollywood superstar Funke Akindele and international comedian AY. Held at the NYU Skirball Performing Arts Center, the event brought together the best of the best from Nigeria and the diaspora, celebrating the diversity of opportunities and artistic range for actors, comedians and filmmakers from around the world.
“It’s one of the rare opportunities we have for Nigerians in the United States and Nigerians from Nigeria getting together celebrating art and entertainment,” says Gbenga Akinnagbe, whose TV and film credits include “The Wire,” “Nurse Jackie” and “Lottery Ticket.”
Winners of the night included international pop star Wizkid, platinum-selling entertainer Tinie Tempah, and hitmaker Don Jazzy, who has collaborated with the likes of Jay Z, Kanye West, and MTV Europe award winner D’banj.
