Kyle Rittenhouse, the teen who left the state of Illinois with a weapon, under the guise of going to protect stores in the midst of the Kenosha, Wis., riots earlier this summer and ended up killing two men and wounding a third, will have to stand trial according to NBC News.
The 17-year-old shooter was just released on $2 million bail last month
with the help of former child actor Silver Spoon’s Ricky Schroder and Mike Lindell, the CEO of My Pillow.Rittenhouse will have to stand trial on charges of felony homicide and other crimes, a court commissioner ruled Thursday. He has been charged with killing two men with an AR-15 rifle in Wisconsin during the protests over the police shooting of Jacob Blake, an unarmed Black man, who was shot multiple times in front of his children. Rittenhouse faces six criminal counts in Wisconsin, including first-degree intentional homicide.
Rittenhouse is facing charges that he killed Anthony M. Huber and Joseph Rosenbaum and also wounded Gaige Grosskreutz.
Commissioner Loren Keating had ruled that there was enough evidence for a trial to take place after Rittenhouse’s attorney tried to convince the court that the 17-year-old had been acting in self-defense and that he broke no laws on Aug 25.
According to NPR, Kenosha County Assistant District Attorney Thomas Binger had disagreed with the defense.
“We don’t allow teenagers to run around with guns, it’s really that simple,” Binger said. “A teenager in this case killed two people and shot a third, because teenagers shouldn’t be allowed to run around with dangerous weapons because bad things happen.”
Rittenhouse has been scheduled to be arraigned on Jan. 5, 2020, in Kenosha County Circuit Court.
The shooting incident involving Rittenhouse took place in Kenosha after Blake’s shooting sparked a slew of protests and civil unrest around the country. Rittenhouse had a friend purchase an assault rifle for him and then traveled from Illinois with a group of counterprotesters, who said they were there to defend property.
