Kevin Merida became the first African American managing editor of the Washington Post when the the Post former editor Liz Spayd stepped down.
The Post hired from within with Merida previously holding the position of the National editor.
His career at the paper, which started in 1993, shows a loyalty that is rapidly uncommon in this day and age.As the managing editor he will be responsible for news and features coverage as well as the Universal News Desk. His counterpart John Temple will be taking over the digital operations of the paper.
