Before attending Clemson, Ross played at Central High School in Phenix City, Alabama. He became an ASWA (Alabama Sports Writers Association) first-team All-State

player between 2016 and 2017. In 2015, he was a second-team selection. In his last year of high school, Ross caught 37 passes for 730 yards and scored 13 touchdowns. He also returned 14 punts for a 27.4-yard average and two touchdowns.
