Boxer Jermell Charlo Arrested And Charged With Misdemeanor Assault
The victim was not identified, but Charlo's wife, Chyane Westbrook, filed for a temporary restraining order and a divorce from the boxer.
On Dec. 16, boxer Jermell Charlo, whose wife had just filed for a temporary restraining order against him, was arrested in Texas.
According to ESPN, Jermell Charlo, who was born and raised in Texas, was picked up this past weekend and charged with misdemeanor assault causing bodily injury to a family member, based on information retrieved from the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office.
Charlo, 33, posted bond Dec. 18 and was released, according to court records.

There was no identification of the victim he allegedly assaulted, but on Dec. 19, court records reveal that Charlo’s wife, Chyane Westbrook, had filed for a temporary restraining order and a divorce from the boxer.
In May 2018, Charlo was charged with felony domestic violence after he allegedly choked his then-current girlfriend. But, in 2019, during a trial for the charge, he was acquitted after a jury handed down a verdict of not guilty.
The boxer has a twin brother: Jermall Charlo is the WBC middleweight champion.
Jermell Charlo, who is 35-2-1 with 19 knockouts, was a unified junior middleweight (up to 154 pounds) champion and recently moved up in weight to 168 pounds in September to fight against Canelo Alvarez. The fight was not even close. Charlo lost virtually every round in a unanimous decision for Alvarez, the undisputed super middleweight champ.
BoxingScene reported that because Charlo moved up in weight, his WBO junior middleweight title was taken from him. As the previous undisputed middleweight titleholder of four belts, he only has the WBA and WBC belts since he also gave up his IBF junior middleweight title.
