Rapper J. Cole took time out of his busy schedule of preparing for his new album to speak to a group of young students at Morehouse College.
Making a surprise visit to a psychology class at the all-male HBCU, the North Carolina-born rapper answered questions from the students in regards to his life, career, and the reality TV culture that we’re growing up in today.
“It really bothers me with us because we are the most disadvantaged,” said Cole in regards to reality television. The 29-year-old St.
John’s University alum adds that as a black community we have the least positive images in media out there and for us to use the few slots that we are given to act a fool is the one thing that just doesn’t sit right with him.“Those are some of my biggest gripes because of the impact that is going to have on little girls that’s looking up to them, you know what I mean, or aspiring to be them. Or the young boys that’s aspiring to have one of those. It’s like it’s sick.”
With his new album, 2014 Forest Hills Drive, expected to drop on December 9th, it’s good to see the rapper take a break from his music to inspire the next generation of influencers.
