Tax filing season is here. Get excited! Friday, Jan. 31, is the first day the Internal Revenue Service will accept 2013 federal income tax returns.
If you need help with
your tax forms, you can visit the IRS website. Be aware, however, that personal tax help on IRS toll-free lines and taxpayer assistance centers has undergone some changes. There will be less personal assistance; taxpayers will increasingly be referred to automated self-service options. The changes for filing season 2014 will affect areas such as tax return preparation, tax refund inquiries, and tax law assistance. Most of the automated services will be available 24 hours and seven days a week.
Furthermore, if you’re looking for face-to-face help with tax-return preparation, the IRS will more than likely direct you to a volunteer partner site due to a resource shortage. As an alternative, the IRS recommends using the IRS Free File program, which provides free e-file and tax software.
