International Women’s Day: Advocacy Group Honoring Global Female Leaders
On Saturday, March 7, in Washington, D.C., the Global Connections for Women Foundation will host the 2015 GC4W International Women’s Day Awards and Benefit Gala at the Library of Congress. The event will feature and honor women from around the world, in leadership positions across industries, who are recognized for their contributions in supporting female empowerment.

This year, the annual festivities will be presented with the theme of “Connecting for Women Empowerment.†Malawi’s first female president, Joyce Banda, will kick off the ceremony with a speech on the importance of investing in girls today. Honorees are from companies and organizations including the United Nations Foundation, Intel, the Clinton Foundation, Samsung and more.
“Our reasoning for choosing the Library of Congress as the site for the upcoming GC4W International Women’s Day celebration is because our organization’s mission is aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Agenda and Millennium Development Goals—particularly the third goal, which is to ‘promote gender equality and empower women,’ originally set to be achieved by 2015,” Lilian O. Ajayi, GC4W founder and executive director, said in a news release. “We felt the enormous duty to celebrate this hallmark achievement at a historical location that represents freedom, justice, and equality—which are at the core of what the Library of Congress stands for.â€
