Previously, BLACK ENTERPRISE reported on 22-year-old inaugural poet Amanda Gorman and the beautiful poem, “The Hill We Climb,” she performed during the ceremony honoring newly elected President Joe Biden. Now, the poet is celebrating another victory with two of her books topping Amazon’s bestsellers list.
Gorman shared on her Twitter page that her books claimed both top spots on the list just a day after her poem received acclaim from politicians, including former president Barack Obama. “I AM ON THE FLOOR MY BOOKS ARE #1 & #2 ON AMAZON AFTER 1 DAY! Thank you so much to everyone for supporting me and my words. As Yeats put it: “For words alone are certain good: Sing, then,” she wrote in a tweet celebrating the news.

The Los Angeles native and first-ever National Youth Poet Laureate also shared news of her two books coming out later this year: a book of poetry titled after her acclaimed poem that is available for pre-order and a children’s book titled Change Sings debuting in the fall.
These won’t be Gorman’s first books. She released her first book of poetry, The One for Whom Food is Not Enough, in 2015.
“I wrote “Change Sings” as a children’s anthem to remind young readers that they have the power to shape the world,” she wrote in her Instagram caption sharing the cover. “The poem is illustrated by the incredible @thelorenlong , the artist behind Barack Obama’s children’s book Of Thee I Sing: A Letter to my Daughters, and I could not be more humbled by the beauty he brought to my words.”
