IRS Commissioner Doug Shulman notes the move as the agency’s attempt to become more

tech-friendly and accessible to taxpayers. “As technology evolves and younger taxpayers get their information in new ways, we will keep innovating to make it easy for all taxpayers to access helpful information.”

By inputting a few pieces of information–your Social

Security number, which is encrypted for security purposes, the filing status listed on your tax return and the amount of refund expected from their 2010 tax return–you can check the status of your federal refund.

Mobile users who file paper tax returns will have to wait up to four weeks before they can check their refund status.  You can check approximately 72 hours after receiving an IRS email confirmation when you e-file.

The app allows users to receive Tax Tips, reminders and easy to follow tax pointers, along with the ability to follow the IRS on Twitter at @IRSNews

.
