Howard University Presents Woman in STEM Researcher of the Year Award

Kimberly L. Jones, Ph.D., received Howard University’s Woman in STEM Researcher of the Year Award in April. The award, first given in 2014, recognizes the distinguished scholarship and leadership of women faculty in STEM at Howard University.

Jones chairs the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Howard. She earned a B.S. in 1990 from Howard and then returned to join the faculty upon completing a Ph.D. in environmental engineering in 1996. Jones began contributing toward understanding waste water treatment while she was still studying for her doctoral degree. She continues to make important contributions to the field.

In support of Jones’s nomination, Sonya T. Smith, Ph.D., chair of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, declared, “I have enormous respect for her dedication to her research and to her students. She has produced over 20 masters students, mentored 10 postdoctoral researchers, and built a successful research program at Howard.”
