Historic Black Enterprise Magazine Covers: Blacks vs White Women in Executive Suite, Sept. 1980

The cover story dealt with a highly controversial issue of the time: the competition between African Americans and white women for corporate positions.

With 15-year-old affirmative action policies extending opportunities to other groups and a stagnant economy at the time, the editors found that many blacks were losing ground due to their designation of “being last-hired, first-fired” and developing a tenuous relationship with white female counterparts.
