Financial contributions to U.S. colleges rose by 9% in 2013, with a report from the Council for Aid to Education stating that of the $33.3 billion donated to higher education institutions in 2013, 26.6% came from alumni. In the community of Historically Black Colleges and Universities, the average percent of alumni givers is sadly just below 10%. Thankfully, recent data submitted to U.S. News show that this below average rate is not the case for all HBCUs.
According to the new data, schools like Claflin University, Spelman College, and Morehouse College top the list for alumni who give back with Claflin having 43% of its alumni donating to the university, followed by 37.3% at Spelman, and 29.3% at Morehouse. See the chart below for the rest of the schools that made the list and check out U.S. News College Compass to find alumni data on other schools.
