Get Ready to Cry: ‘Insecure’ Ending After Upcoming Fifth Season
They’re getting ready to call it a wrap! The Emmy-winning HBO comedy series Insecure is ending. HBO has announced that the upcoming fifth season of the popular series, which stars Issa Rae, will also be the final one, according to Amy Gravitt, executive vice president of HBO Programming.
“Issa has turned insecurity into an iconic form of comedy,” said Gravitt in a written statement. “The show is as incisive as it is heartfelt, and it has resonated strongly with its audience because of the deeply personal work that Issa, Prentice, Melina, the cast, and the writers have put into it. This talented team has conceived a brilliant final season for Insecure and we look forward to having many more stories to tell with this singular group of collaborators.”
Last season, which was the series’ fourth debuted on HBO last spring and was acclaimed by both critics and fans alike. Reviews included The A.V. Club stating it was “by far INSECURE’s best season,” Hollywood Reporter praising the season as “funny as ever,” IndieWire hailing the series as “quietly groundbreaking,” and Decider highlighting the season as “nimble and introspective.”
Rae, the talented creator, actor, writer, and producer behind the show, took to Twitter to make the announcement.
Very excited to film our fifth and final season! We couldn’t have told a complete story without the tremendous support of our audience and the faith of @HBO. See y’all soon! #InsecureHBO https://t.co/3gsoDwSGDR
