IRS Launching ‘Free File’ on January 17th

The Internal Revenue Service reports that Free File

orwp-incontent-custom-banner ampforwp-incontent-ad1"> , the IRS’ online tax preparation and e-filing program, will launch this Friday at IRS.gov/freefile. This service is made available by Free File Alliance, a coalition of 14 leading tax companies. The service offers guided preparation and e-filing instructions for those with a 2013 annual gross income of $58,000 or less, in addition to free online tax forms with no income restrictions. You can check your tax return from last year for an estimate of your adjusted gross income. (According to the IRS, approximately 70% of all taxpayers have an AGI of $57,000 or less.)

Free File allows consumers to choose from several free offerings from leading providers

of tax software. Furthermore, The Free File Alliance has also partnered with the IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program. This is a walk-in service for low-to-moderate income taxpayers.
