A financial literacy curriculum designed by a father-son duo is helping students at one high school learn how to invest in the stock market.
Virginia esquire Kevon L. Chisolm and his 11-year-old son, Kamari Chisolm, announced the launch of Black Wallstreeter Consultation Services back in March to aid people, particularly young people, with increasing their wealth.
“By working with a team
of like-minded people, a club can help relieve the stress of trying to improve your financial situation alone,” Chisolm said at the time. “Anyone over the age of 8 is encouraged to attend the seminars.”Now, their in-depth curriculum is up and running at Vance High School in Charlotte, North Carolina. Called “Junior Wallstreeters: Empowering Youth with Financial Wellness,” the purpose of the course is to provide young people with financial education and discipline. And, as a result, possibly lower the wealth gap between generations.
Wallstreeter’s curriculum includes an introduction to financial literacy concepts, tools on starting and running an investment club, and investing in the stock market, according to BlackNews.com. But the main thing that sets it apart from other courses is the investment club section in which they teach students to apply the financial information they learned by investing in real life in the stock market

The elder Chisolm has been involved with investing for more than 15 years as president of Umoja Investments L.L.C., an investment club that has accumulated more than $300,000 in cash and securities. In addition, he created Stock Tracker by WallStreeter, which is a pocket journal that aims to help people who are new to investing track their securities. Chisolm has also written an eBook called Financial Legacy: Building Wealth Through Investment Clubs, which is used in the course.
