WHAT?
The BLACK ENTERPRISE BE Smart HBCU Hackathon is a tech-based competition and mentor program that prepares dozens of students from HBCUs to become dynamic tech leaders of tomorrow. Sponsored by American Airlines, the Hackathon provides valuable opportunities to build relationships, gain mentorship, display team collaboration skills, and add meaningful experiences to students’ résumés. American Airlines will provide prizes to the winning team.

WHEN AND WHERE?
Nov. 14–17, 2024, in Charlotte, NC. Airfare, hotels, and meals are provided for all hackers, plus you’ll get a cool swag bag, #BEHack t-shirt, and valuable professional connections.

PARTICIPATING SCHOOLS

HACKATHON TEAMS:

We can accept one team per school. Any additional teams will be reviewed by BE and accepted on a case-by-case basis. One school chaperone is required to attend with students for the entirety of
the event. The competition requires five students per team. HBCUs with too few applicable students to form a five-member team have the opportunity to be matched with standby students from other schools to allow participation.

COMPETITION DETAILS

Projects will be judged by BLACK ENTERPRISE, American Airlines, and leading tech experts to determine if each team’s app features innovation, impact, and technical achievement. The apps will be judged on real-world social impact, solving a problem in a new or creative way, and achieving a working project demo within the allotted time during the on-site competition.
