in the four decades since King was brutally, tragically taken away from us, we must recognize that his faith and that of generations of African Americans in the ultimate triumph of justice, righteousness, and equality was not in vain. Just as King was certain of the promise and progress we would fulfill in the decades following his death, we must communicate and demonstrate our faith in our children’s ability to move this country ever closer to the promised land of justice and equality, even if we may not live to see it. All we’ve witnessed in our own lifetimes is more than enough to justify King’s faith in us and in his vision for the future of America. We must remain resolute and hold on to the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen.
