The Multicultural Media, Telecom and Internet Council (MMTC) will hold a half-day Tech Prep Summit to introduce students to opportunities in the tech industry.
The summit, sponsored by Intel, will take place in Washington D.C. at the University of the District of Columbia Van Ness Campus Theatre of the Arts on Oct. 22Â from 8:30 AM to 2:45 PM.
The event will feature keynote speakers, hands-on demonstrations, résumé and interview workshops, networking opportunities, tech prizes and giveaways, and more.
Representatives from Intel will be on hand to speak with attendees. Other guests include individuals from National Black Data Processing Associates, radio show host and national news correspondent Ebony McMorris, Shark Tank casting director Brandon Andrews, and more high-profile people.
Sessions include a STEM music demo on coding, design, and app development. There will also be a tech talk on how people of color can succeed in tech; ways to become a techpreneur; how to land tech jobs and scholarships; and other useful information.
A round of mock interviews will highlight the “do’s and don’ts†when going on a tech job interview.
“Countless multicultural students demonstrate interest and achievement in technology, but struggle to see themselves studying related fields–they cannot link the fields to their lives, goals, and perceptions of who succeeds in tech,†stated MMTC President and CEO Kim Keenan.
“With the Tech Prep Summit, MMTC seeks to disrupt the pipeline. We want to show multicultural and female students that there are people who look like them–and who flourish–in both tech careers and tech entrepreneurship.â€
Breakfast and lunch will be served at the event, which is free to attend. Seats are limited and registration closes Oct. 21.
