Donald Sterling Will Not Receive Second NAACP Lifetime Achievement Award

The Los Angeles chapter of the NAACP will not be presenting embattled Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling with a second Lifetime Achievement award.

On Sunday morning, the NAACP tweeted the following update:

#DonaldSterling will not be receiving a lifetime achievement award from the LA Branch of the NAACP. #MTP

Sterling was scheduled to receive the award from the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People at a banquet which is scheduled for May 15. It is the 100th Anniversary of the L.A Chapter.

Interim President of the NAACP Lorraine Miller also confirmed on NBC’s “Meet the Press” yesterday that Sterling would not be honored at the banquet.

The NAACP of course reversed their decision to honor Donald Sterling amid the maelstrom of criticism across the nation and on social media surrounding alleged racist comments purportedly made by Sterling during a private conversation. Audio of his conversation with young woman V. Stiviano was made public this weekend on TMZ. Stiviano also told the website TMZ, that she is not Sterling’s girlfriend as popularly believed.

Sterling was already the beneficiary of a Lifetime Achievement Award from the NAACP back in 2009.

The NAACP awarded him that cherished distinction just weeks after former Clippers General Manager and retired NBA superstar Elgin Baylor sued Sterling for wrongful termination and discrimination on the basis of age and race.
