D-Link just announced the DCS-936L. Webcams for surveillance are one of the hottest tech items on the market now. People love the easy of setup and affordability of Internet-connected webcams and apps to secure their homes; watch their pets, kids, and other loved ones remotely; and protect their small business establishments.

The DCS-936L has a solid feature set for a webcam of its price-point; it’s $79.99 at Best Buy or D-Link’s online store.

Key features include a WiFi signal locator to help place the camera in the optimal location for connectivity, HD 720p video streaming and recording, infrared night-vision, 4x digital zoom, and motion and sound detection.

D-Link also announced a higher-tiered webcam, the HD Pan & Tilt WiFi Camera (DCS-5030L). This cam has all the features of the DCS-936L, but its pan and tilt functionality means the camera view can cover wider areas of your home or small business with an ultra-smooth 340-degree pan and 110-degree tilt. This webcam is priced at $139.99.

The recording capability is a highlight of both. Responsive recording allows the cameras to automatically begin recording to a local microSD card, as each webcam has a microSD slot and can support cards up to 128 GB. Recording begins when either motion or sound is detected, according to a schedule, or continuously, allowing users to customize their surveillance recordings as needed.

“Our newest set of WiFi cameras provide crisp, 720p video clarity and free local recording with expanded storage capabilities, allowing users to protect more of what they love,” said Carissa Blegen, surveillance product line manager at D-Link. “With motion and sound detection alerts, night-vision, as well as remote viewing through our free mydlink Lite app, the DCS-936L and DCS-5030L give homeowners an affordable and reliable DIY security solution.”
