According to the Washington Press

ontent-ad1"> , the coffee shop, that opened this month in Coventry, Connecticut, was strategically named as a way for people to associate the cafe with the idea of waking up in the morning.

However, Quiroga’s Republican neighbors accused her of trying to make a political statement after she revealed a sign with the logo on the building in September.

Quiroga denied the allegations that making a political statement was the intention.

“You woke up and made the right choice,” is the company’s mantra.

The restaurant owner found out about the spiteful words that were circulating on Facebook while she was finalizing paperwork for her business.

“Naming it ‘woke.’ Is that really such a good idea?” one commenter posted about the restaurant, speculating that Quiroga would lose the interest of right-wing customers.

The Washington Post

reported that Quiroga worried she would lose everything if nobody supported her business.

Coventry Town Council Chairwoman Lisa Thomas, revealed that negative comments about the success of the restaurant were being shared through a private town Facebook group.

A blessing in disguise for the Woke Breakfast & Coffee owner, the controversy brought out many supporters who backed up the cafe’s line and sold out the menu during its opening on Jan. 19.

Reportedly, The town’s Republican Committee showed its support for Quiroga’s business since the cafe opened.

Quiroga and her husband moved from Mexico City to Connecticut in 2005.

The couple dove into the restaurant industry, establishing the Italian-themed Sotelo’s Pizza & Restaurant almost a decade after settling in.

The pair sold their Italian restaurant with hopes that it would grant Quiroga more time with her nine-year-old son.

Woke Breakfast & Coffee, a cafe serving Mexican dishes, is their newest restaurant venture after closing down the former spot.
