Handlers of Circus Elephant Offer $32,000 For Capture of Shooter

Handlers of an Asian elephant that was wounded in a drive-by shooting are offering a $32,000 reward to anyone who can lead authorities to the animal’s attacker.

Carol, an Asian elephant who performs with the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus, was shot once in the neck by an assailant in a vehicle in Tupelo, Miss.

“I didn’t know if she was going to survive [until] morning,” said Carol’s trainer Catherine Carden on the Today show Friday morning. “Your whole life flashes before your eyes.”

“I heard a loud, a very loud boom. Like a bomb went off.”

The animal is expected to make a full recovery.

“I believe it was fully intentional,” said Capt. Rusty Haynes of the Tupelo police department, according to Today.com. “I think it may have been just somebody or a couple of people with too much time on their hands.”
