Healthcare service provider Cigna announced the appointment of John J. Webb as the market president for West Tennessee, Arkansas, and Mississippi. Webb will be responsible for overseeing more than 500 plan employees across employer clients. He will be in charge of leading the team compromised of health care professionals and community partners to create new innovative solutions to improve customer relations.
“I’m excited to bring a combination of corporate experience and venture capital expertise in applying creativity, agility, and innovation to help improve health and wellbeing for the people we serve in the local marketplace,” said Webb in an email interview with BLACK ENTERPRISE
.“Cigna is working to make health care more affordable, predictable, and simple. As we do that, we want to expand the reach of the health plan options we have based on our strong health provider relationships. This includes serving both urban and suburban customers,” says Webb.
Webb says he is looking to improve customer service for his region and support local partners through various initiatives. “Our focus is not just on the clients and customers we serve—Cigna is committed to improving the health, wellbeing, and peace of mind of the communities where we live, work, and play,” said Webb. “That’s why we support the efforts of local partners who address health equity, food insecurity, opioid addiction, and other issues, such as the Orange Mound Community Center in Memphis, the Matt Adams Foundation in Arkansas, and many more.”
Amidst the spread of COVID-19, or the novel coronavirus pandemic, Web looks to provide support to
his community in Memphis and the surrounding areas with solutions that can help clients stay afloat and receive help during the public health crisis. “To help our customers during the COVID-19 crisis, Cigna immediately took a series of steps such as waiving out-of-pocket costs for testing and treatment and providing our customers with resources and new telehealth options,” Webb says.“Since we’ve seen minorities are disproportionately affected by COVID-19, I’m also proud that Cigna is launching a customer engagement program in Memphis and selected cities to
address health disparities in communities of color. By listening and being present here in the local market, I have the opportunity to help further shape solutions to address health disparities and chronic disease management,” Webb continued.“Our goal is to catch conditions early while they’re preventable, and better monitor potential issues for specific populations in the three states my team covers. To help achieve that, we will make a big effort to enhance health literacy across the entire region and engage people in their health and wellbeing.”
