Vice President Dick Cheney will meet with Vice President-elect Joe Biden on Thursday at the Naval Observatory in preparation to hand off the post as the nation’s second-in-command, according to reports.
Cheney spokeswoman Megan Mitchell told the Associated Press that Cheney and his wife, Lynne, have invited Biden and his wife, Jill, to visit their Washington, D.C. home at the observatory. The meeting on the vice presidential transition comes after the historic Monday meeting between President Bush and President-elect Barack Obama.
The Bidens’ visit will include a tour of the residence, and foreign policy and national security issues will likely be the main topics of discussion.
Biden, who was chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, has experience in both foreign and domestic affairs, and has had more than thirty years in the political arena. Cheney is known as a chief architect of the Iraq War and an uncompromising conservative when it comes to U.S. foreign policy.
