In the small business sector’s big news of the day, record label Cash Money Records has sold it’s 500 millionth song. Love it or hate it, that’s a lot of music.
The record label started by brothers Bryan “Birdman” Williams and Ronald “Slim” Williams, formed in 1991 as a chance
for the brothers and their friends to escape from poverty. The label had a cult following in their native New Orleans because of acts like U.N.L.V. and Kilo G, but didn’t have nationwide attention until The Hot Boys (comprised of B.G., Young Turk, Juvenile and Lil Wayne) teamed up on classics like “Back That Azz Up” and “Ha.”Since then, some of the members have been in and out of jail while some have become legends; and very wealthy from the work they’ve put in. Birdman’s estimated net worth is somewhere around $125 million. And Lil Wayne is hanging out around $95 million. Not bad for a bedroom studio start-up.
Birdman is proud of his company’s success.
“There is a no more dynamic and prolific label than Cash Money Records and the YMCMB family — point blank. We’re proud of every one of our artists and their contribution to our legacy,†Bryan “Birdman†Williams, the Co-CEO and Founder of Cash Money Records told XXL.
“What’s most humbling is the global reaction to our story. Slim and I built this label from the ground up and seeing our brand connect with people across borders, cultures and languages makes us appreciate every one of our fans worldwide. We can’t wait to deliver another 500 million bangers.â€
