Carla Hall’s Forthcoming Children’s Book Combines Food, Sweets, Literacy, and Love
Take just one trip to Carla Hall’s website and you’ll determine how much cooking is her great gift. Hall’s story begins in Nashville, Tennessee, where she grew up surrounded by soul food. After graduating from Howard University’s Business School, Hall reportedly worked as an accountant for two years, then as a runway model. She ultimately realized that her deep-rooted food passion could be incorporated into a career path.
Hall’s respect for her journey has taken her far. Her philosophy is to always cook with love. It shows. Hall has done everything from brightening the mornings of millions of viewers as a culinary contributor on Good Morning America to being featured on Food Network shows such as Martha Stewart’s Bakeaway Camp. Now, Hall will have an opportunity to win over children through a sweet holiday story called Carla and the Christmas Cornbread. The book will be released in November.
Hall posted about her newest pursuit on her Instagram account.

“I’ve wanted to create a children’s book for a long time now and I’m thrilled to have partnered with @denenemillnerbooks to bring this to fruition. Another major thanks to @cheriseharris.illo for her wonderful illustrations that really give life to the characters. I hope this story can be enjoyed for years to come by children of all backgrounds. I’m so excited to share the official cover art for Carla and the Christmas Cornbread — out this November! Check out the link in my bio for an interview with @thetakeoutsite about my inspiration for the book,” Hall said in a post.
The trained chef and television personality has already explored authoring cookbooks, but this particular project is kid-friendly, and it can bring families together through literacy, in an entertaining manner.
When Hall was interviewed by The Takeout, she shared that the picture book will be published by Simon & Schuster’s latest imprint, Denene Millner Books. Additionally, the project was illustrated by Cherise Harris. The Takeout also informed that Carla and the Christmas Cornbread follows a character inspired by Hall’s own childhood.
“Young Carla can’t wait to celebrate her favorite holiday—Christmas—with her family and grandma’s special recipe—a perfectly delicious cornbread. When Carla accidentally takes a bite out of Santa’s sugar cookie, she thinks she has ruined Christmas. How will Santa know to stop at their house if they don’t leave him a midnight snack? Will Carla be able to come up with a plan in time to save Christmas?” the synopsis said as a part of the book’s reveal.
Hall’s publisher, Denene Millner, excitedly plugged Hall’s forthcoming book on her Facebook page.
“I’m so proud of this, the latest Denene Millner Books offering, from our fav, Chef Carla Hall! It’s a super sweet tale full of LOVE—just like its author. Plus, of course there’s a recipe for Carla’s cornbread and cinnamon butter (it’s incredible!)and… wait for it… there’s a BLACK SANTA. Y’all ain’t ready!” Milner posted.
Carla and the Christmas Cornbread can be pre-ordered on Amazon.
