Update: Bronny James Not ‘Cleared Fully’ To Play In USC Games

The anticipation of Bronny James making his collegiate debut has sports fans, specifically at the University of Southern California (USC), ready to witness what the son of LeBron James can do against his college peers. But, they have to wait just a little longer as the freshman has not been “cleared fully yet,” according to his basketball coach.
According to ESPN, although he has been cleared to return to playing basketball by his medical team, Bronny participated in practice at USC in a limited capacity. The incoming freshman had a cardiac arrest on July 24 and was taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, where it was revealed that a congenital heart defect was the probable cause for the health scare.
On Monday, Dec. 4, USC Trojans basketball coach Andy Enfield stated that Bronny is just awaiting clearance for full-contact practice, but he was involved without contact during the session.

“Bronny has not been cleared fully yet from USC,” Enfield told the media outlet after the team practiced. “He can participate without contact. He’s done a good job of getting his conditioning and his strength back, and I think he’s on the path to being ready to play very quickly.”
So far, Bronny has gone through five-on-zero noncontact work, shooting as well as individual drills. He was also involved in pregame warmups with his teammates.
“We hope to get Bronny on the court as soon as possible,” Enfield said. “The heart specialist, the doctors at USC, those are people that have to give the approval, and I know they’re working diligently on the whole process. I commend them for all they’ve done as part of this.”
Enfield also says that his teammates are glad to see him on the court, and the university is also enthusiastic.
“Everybody’s excited to see Bronny on the court. The fans, teammates, everybody around our program and university. Bronny’s done a great job of mentally and physically getting back to this point and I think he’s very anxious to get back full-time playing. We’re excited to watch him play.”
The Trojans will be playing at home against Long Beach State this upcoming Dec. 10.
