‘Boondocks’ Creator Launches Kickstarter Campaign

Aaron McGruder, creator of the Adult Swim cartoon TV series the “Boondocks,” has launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise money for a feature film based on one of the television show’s most controversial characters,  Uncle Ruckus, the Grio reports.

Uncle Ruckus is a variation on the folk-telling sychophantic Uncle Remus character by Joel Chandler Harris.

“If you do know who Uncle Ruckus is, you either really love him or really hate him. But if you’ve made it this far, you probably love him like we do. This is your movie,” reads McGruder’s Kickstarter promo. McGruder says he’s crowd-funding the film because Sony Pictures, which produces the Boondocks will not be involved.

An article at Comics Alliance describes Uncle Ruckus as “the ultimate black white supremacist, as eager to appease every Caucasian he ever met as he is to denigrate any non-white who steps within an eighty-eight mile radius of him.”

The film must make its $200k goal by March 1st to be funded. It currently has 809 backers and has raised about $25k.
