Is this a set-back for Jay-Z’s return to music dominance?
Billboard, the weekly U.S. music trade magazine, said on Friday that it will not count the 1 million copies
of Jay Z’s upcoming album, “Magna Carta Holy Grail,” that are set for distribution to Samsung smartphone users on July 4.If the copies were counted, the release would technically make the rapper’s album platinum before its official release to non-Samsung customers a few days later.
According to Billboard rules, bulk album sales that are given away for free aren’t counted in total sales and aren’t eligible for the music charts, even if the artist and the record label are paid for them, reports Reuters
