Better Business Bureau Embroiled in Scandal Over Fees, Fake Company

The Better Business Bureau (BBB) is only looking out for themselves. A sting operation conducted at a local branch exposed that the BBB gave its certification away for a monetary fee of $425. The “company” they gave away the certification to, Hamas, did not actually exist.

Tuttle, many consumers make the mistake of thinking of the BBB as a consumer watchdog when in fact it is not a government agency. The BBB actually generates its funds through dues that are paid by the businesses that are accredited.

Tuttle says: “Pay your dues, and it’s relatively easy to score a good grade, no matter how many complaints come along. The organization’s customers are businesses, not taxpayers or consumers.”
