One Word That Describes You: Passionate

What does being one of the BE Modern Man 100 Honorees mean to you?

It is one of the most incredible honors I think I’ve received to date. I have been a huge subscriber and fan of Black Enterprise

for years. I’ve even had the joy of attending one of the BE Summits and have had Alfred Edmond Jr. on my show.

What is your “Extraordinary Impact?”

Because of my work ethic and my faith, I have convinced myself that I can do anything I want in life. That’s the source of my success throughout multiple industries and careers. I now work to spread that same confidence in the lives of others and help evoke ownership of a transformative mindset.

What are you doing as a BEMM to help support black male achievement now or in the future?

I am currently pursuing my Ph.D. in psychology to help reinforce

my work as a speaker as I am afforded the opportunity to help my black community understand and break the negative mindsets and habits in exchange for new progressive ones. I also moderate and curate community conversations and have a syndicated radio show that further extends my message and belief in ownership, faith, and development. I also am a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., which is an organization completely dedicated to black male achievement.

What are some examples of how you have turned struggle into success?

A few years ago, I was newly married and out of a job. I was laid off the day before my wedding and unable to find employment for four years after that. I created my own media content

company and began using my talent as an on-air radio personality, speaker, and host to create my future. Now by faith and works, I am a multiple award-winning, nationally and internationally self-syndicated radio host from Oak Cliff, Texas, (section of Dallas, Texas). I worked my butt off, studied hard, learned from others, found mentors and kept my faith in God and what was within to ultimately see my test become triumph. (Photo Credit: J McClure)

What is an important quality you look for in your relationships with others?

Honesty, humility, empathy, and gratefulness. We can never consider ourselves too seriously and yet we must consider others intently.

What are some immediate projects you are working on?

I’m currently pursuing my Ph.D. in psychology. I have recently become a contributor to His Favor Magazine

. I’m working on a book and am looking to continue expanding my reach as a speaker.

What is the best advice you have ever received?

In all things, give thanks.

What advice you have for other men who want to make a difference?

Identify distractions, embrace what they are, and never give them the same attention ever again. Practice focus and self-discipline.
