Baltimore-based Brown Capital Management is Maryland’s largest minority-owned money management firm. Founded by Eddie C. Brown in 1983, the firm manages over $1.2 billion in assets — down 39% from last year.
The firm specializes in large/mid-capitalization, small company, international, and concentrated domestic equity investment strategies, as well as balanced, equity, mid-cap, small company, and international equity mutual funds.
In May 2006, Brown was inducted into the Wall Street Hall of Fame. He is credited for developing the Growth at a Reasonable Price (GARP) investment philosophy more than twenty years ago. GARP’s structure is built on growth stock investing, valuation discipline, fundamental, bottom-up stock selection, long term investment horizon, and team-based decision making.
