Ava DuVernay became the first African-American woman to win the U.S. Directing Award for her second feature film Middle of Nowhere
at the Sundance Film Festival Saturday night.The director won in the dramatic category for a film that follows the life of woman fighting to reconcile her marriage and own identity after her husband is incarcerated.
DuVernay’s distribution entity AFFRM (African-American Film Festival Releasing Movement) and Participant Media have acquired the theatrical rights to the film.
