Author Kaneisha Grayson is Her ‘Own Boyfriend’ — and Fundraiser, Too
Kaneisha Grayson, who embarked on a social media blitz to promote and raise funds for her new book project, Be Your Own Boyfriend: A Guide to Life and Love, is on the heels of reaching her goal of $10,000 on the crowd funding site Kickstarter.
As of Wednesday morning, the project received support from over 150 backers, raising a total of $7,261. Grayson has until Jan. 4 to raise the rest of the funds, which will expedite orders of the hard copies of the book, greeting cards, and bookmarks, Grayson says.
“Be Your Own Boyfriend is the book I wish I’d had when I was in college,” Grayson continues on her Kickstarter page.
“This book will give young women the tools they need to navigate the murky waters of their twenties with confidence, from letting go of relationships that don’t serve them to getting clear on their life goals and getting the encouragement and guidance they need to pursue their passions.”  To date, nearly half of all donors have donated between $25 and $40.
Grayson, a Harvard grad, says the project is already written and ready to go to the printer. Backers can donate up to $1,000 or more, receiving anything from an inscribed copy of the book to a personalized coaching session with the author.
“Throughout the book, I reveal the 50 Self-Love Principles every young woman needs for crafting a life that she is head over heels in love with,” Garyson continues. “Sprinkled throughout each chapter are real reader-submitted stories and advice, insight from guys called ‘brospectives,’ and juicy details about my own life struggles and triumphs, called Kaneisha Confessionals.”
