HBCU Gameday reports

Feggins named the university, VP of Business Administration Gwendolyn Kea, and Interim AD Stephen Larson in his suit claiming a breach of contract, breach of the implied covenant of good faith & fair dealing, fraudulent/negligent misrepresentation, and tortious interference with contractual relations.

According to Feggins’ suit, the parties acted outside the scope

of their positions at St. Augustine’s University, and his termination wasn’t related to any legitimate business interest, and it exceeded the scope of their respective legal rights and authority.

“The Individual defendants collectively and individually fostered a personal, unjustified animus towards Coach Feggins; and (ii) the Individual Defendants’ personal animus towards Coach Feggins intensified when he reported and/or refused to engage in potentially wrongful conduct,” the lawsuit claims.

Feggins, who played briefly in the NFL with the

New York Giants and New England Patriots, has a wealth of coaching experience, starting as a minority coaching intern with the Giants in 1991. His coaching career includes stops at Eastern Michigan University, Norfolk State University, South Carolina State University, and the New England Patriots.

Feggins and the Falcons didn’t win a single game, finishing 0-10 in his only season at St. Augustine’s. The Falcons struggled significantly on offense, scoring less than 20 points in all 10 games they played this season.

According to the suit, Saint Augustine’s University administrators knew their Athletic Department “was not in healthy financial shape, and certainly not in the shape that had been represented to Coach Feggins.”

The suit adds that Feggins believed St. Augustine’s athletic department was violating NCAA rules and he was fired after the Falcons season ended in October. Feggins is requesting a judgment against all Defendants, jointly and separately, for compensatory damages over $25,000, plus interest as allowed by law.

St. Augustine’s last winning season came in 2012 when the Falcons went 6-4. Since 2017 when they finished 5-5, the Falcons have not won more than two games in a single season.
