Houston Texans receiver Andre Johnson has decided it is better to give than to receive. He’s giving quite a bit to some local kids in Texas.
On December 2, Johnson took a group
of 11 children from local Child Protective Services on a shopping spree to Toys R’ Us. With a little help from the Texans cheerleaders, the kids got 80 seconds to stuff a shopping cart with whatever toys that wanted. After ringing the items up at four different registers, Johnson dug in his pocket to pay a grand total of $16,266.26 worth of stuffed animals, DVD players, video games and toys for the deserving kids.“I just enjoy doing it,” Johnson tells ESPN. “…I always felt like if I was ever to make it, I wanted to give back. You go through stuff as a kid growing up. You understand certain situations. I understand some of the things these kids go through.”
The NFL superstar’s shopping spree is an annual holiday tradition, with this year being the 7th event.
