It has recently been announced that actor, comedian, writer, producer, and trailblazer, Chris Rock, is set to host the 88th Academy Awards in 2016. This will be Rock’s second appearance as an Academy Awards host with him taking his first shot at the coveted gig in 2005. “I’m so glad to be hosting the Oscars,” says Rock. “It’s great to be back.”

Since its inception in 1929, there have been a total of 75 entertainers, actors, or creators to host the ceremony. Rock is 1 of 5 African Americans who has had the opportunity to host Hollywood’s biggest event.

Chris Rock (Feb. 7, 1965 – )

Rock began standup in 1984 in New York City before eventually becoming a member of Saturday Night Live in 1990. In 1991, he released his first comedy album, Born Suspect. Rock experienced great standup, television, and film success with notable works including The Chris Rock Show, Dogma, Chris Rock: Bring the Pain, Head of State, Top Five, New Jack City, Boomerang, and many more.
