The study, conducted from 1995 to 2011, found that a total of 28,456 women admitted that they were either physically or sexually abused before the age of 11, as well as between the ages of 12 and 18.

The study found that an African-American woman who suffered abuse as a child saw her chances of developing asthma later in life increase by 20 percent.
