With temperatures quickly creeping close to 90 degrees in the Big Apple, there’s no need to wait until June 21, the official date of summer, to kick-off your summer fun in the city. Genese Jamilah, founder and editor of I Don’t Do Clubs, an online hub for professionals
looking for social events beyond the typical nightclub scene, spoke exclusively to Black Enterprise, “New York City summers are magical. We battle the brutal winters for this. There are tons of free concerts, festivals, and rooftop parties. Everyone is out and about (and in a better mood). My favorite events are Makossa Brooklyn Cookout, SummerStage Concert Series, AfroPunk, Brooklyn Loves MJ Celebration and, of course, Must Love Beards Day Party.”I Don’t Do Clubs also compiled a list of the 25 Events Every Black New Yorker Should Attend this Summer. So dig out your sunglasses, grab your smartphone, and add the hottest summer events for urban professionals to your calendar.
